It is shameful that in the 21st Century there is enduring poverty in our city and children are going without warm winter clothing. Abernecessities is a local charity that does a fantastic job in supporting the citizens of our city.
In the council chamber on 11 October, I pleaded with the SNP/LibDem administration to not spend £50,000 on external consultants, but to instead use this money to help provide warm, winter coats for children.
Unfortunately, they did not agree with me and shortly afterwards, Abernecessities made this heart-rending appeal.
The SNP/LibDem administration in Aberdeen have made swingeing cuts to our precious library services. Lynn has protested against these closures, speaking out in the council chamber many times, and will continue to do so.
Our public services are very dear to us all and libraries are the hub of our communities. Libraries offer many services from stocking food waste bags, internet and computer access, a place to study and warm, safe spaces.
UPDATE MARCH 2024: The Labour Group allocated funds for reopening the libraries in the council budget, however this was not supported by the SNP/LibDem administration.
Lynn was dismayed by the hasty closure of Bucksburn Swimming Pool as a result of cuts by the city's SNP/LibDem administration. As one of the most accessible pools in Aberdeen, it was an invaluable facility for all the community and especially for those with mobility difficulties.
Scotland has the worst rate of drowning in the UK and swimming is a valuable life skill that everyone should have the opportunity to learn.
UPDATE: Lynn is delighted that the pool is to reopen. It's disappointing that community campaigners had to instigate a judicial review to reverse this poor decision by the SNP/LibDem administration.
Aberdeen City Council ran a public consultation on the closure of the libraries in Cornhill, Northfield, Woodside, Cults, Kaimhill and Ferryhill. I hope you took the opportunity to let the council know what you think about these closures. When the outcome of the consultation is published, I will add it here.
